If You Give a Mom a Cup of Coffee....

This blog will probably go back and forth between being my personal thoughts and troubles and being where I post ideas and items regarding my writing.  Apparently, every up and coming writer is supposed to blog.  Well, I ran across a story idea I had a year ago or so and wanted to share the rough draft.  It is based on a famous children's book called "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie".  This will be a short story, is in its very beginning stages, and will only be published after the turkey story!  Any comments or suggstions are welcome.  If you have any other crazy mom distraction ideas, that would be cool too! Happy Reading!!! Thanks, Mary

If You Give A Mom A Cup Of Coffee....

by Mary Cooper

This short story is inspired by being a mom.  I dedicate it to all of my mom friends out there that I know would give anything to sit down and relax over a cup of coffee or tea for just 5 minutes.  But, also know that none of us would give up one second of the best job on Earth; being a mother!

If you give a mom a cup of coffee, she will go to sit in her favorite chair. On her way, she will see all the trash her teenage kids left in the living room last night after she went to bed. She will sit her cup of coffee down and collect all the trash. The trashcan will be overflowing, so she will take out the trash.

When she takes out the trash, she will see how dry her plants are. She will go to get the watering can, then head to the kitchen sink to fill it up. The kitchen sink is full of dishes, so she will open the dishwasher. Of course, nobody has unloaded it yet, so she unloads the dishwasher. As she does, the baby starts crying, so she goes to check on him.

When the mom gets to her baby, she realizes why he was crying. He has a stinky diaper, so she picks him up, plants a kiss on his cheek, and takes him to the changing table. As she is changing her baby, she realizes that the diaper was messier than she thought. She collects all the messy clothes and sheets from the crib, and with the baby on her hip, heads to the laundry room.

In the laundry room, the mom starts a load of laundry. She knows she will be doing laundry all day, so she starts sorting laundry on the floor and decides to go gather the dirty laundry from the rest of the house. She goes into her teenage daughter's bathroom and remembers that she hasn't gone to the bathroom yet this morning. She takes care of that and goes to wash her hands. There is no hand soap. She takes the soap container and goes back to the kitchen to look under the sink for a refill. She begins to fill up the soap when she looks around and remembers that she had been trying to do the dishes.

She finishes unloading the dishwasher and begins rinsing the dishes that are in the sink. She gets that mess cleaned up when the baby appears at her feet whining and pointing at the pantry. The mom puts the baby in the high chair and gives the baby some cereal and fruit.
